About John

EDUCATOR:  John F. Short III has been teaching in the Philadelphia suburbs since 2005. John was pleased to discover he was able to transfer his life-long passion and dedication for music into his teaching career. As an instructor, John is well equipped by the knowledge he has acquired as an experienced performer and student of many great educators. His ability to combine this knowledge with his passion for music, working with others and his genuine and contagious enthusiasm has made him both a great teacher and coach. He developed a personalized and dynamic approach to music instruction that employs many different teaching tools. In 2008, his success as an instructor led him to open SHORTTONES Music Studio, where he taught lessons, recorded and held summer camps and workshops. In 2012 John’s business evolved into PAOLI GUITAR STUDIO, where he continues to focus on delivering superior quality and professional music lessons to students of any age, learning styles, musical taste and musical background.

MUSICIAN:  John F. Short III has played extensively throughout the region with a variety of different groups and artists including his former progressive rock group Jocelyn Falls and in his collaborations with Patrick Willis yielding the 2007 album “Clear” co-produced by John. He has also recorded three albums with his former group Jocelyn Falls, two albums under his own name and has produced singles for artists in the Philadelphia area. A shape shifter, he has considerable versatility in many styles including Blues, Rock, Jazz, Folk and has training in Brazilian, Classical, Finger Style Blues and Spanish guitar. John studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and has studied Jazz improvisation with the author of “Jazz Vibes” Jon Metzger at Elon University. He has also studied Classical Guitar with Carey Harwood and advanced harmony privately with renowned Blue Note recording artist and Jazz educator Dr. Donald Byrd.
